Hi there -

We just wanted to drop a quick note and let you know how much we have been enjoying our new furry feline addition, Charley since we adopted him in January! He is one of the friendliest, smartest cats that I've had the pleasure of knowing. He's more like a dog sometimes than a cat by the way he retrieves/fetches items (especially the things he likes to play with) and his ultra friendly social personality. He always likes to be in the middle of the action which says a lot because we have an almost 2 year old boy who can get a little rough and loud at times. But this cat has the patience of a saint and has never hissed once or been violent towards him or anyone for that matter. On the contrary, he thrives off of the interaction and attention and keeps coming back for more.

I have to admit that the initial process of adopting him was different from what I was used to in the past. (I adopted another cat from a different shelter many years ago.) Bonnie our "cat matchmaker" spent time with us to get a feel for the best match for us. Although we saw many cats in the cages that we would've liked to see, Bonnie assured us that they weren't the right fit for us and that she had the right one in mind. As soon as Bonnie brought Charley in our room, my husband Jared and I agreed that not only was he beautiful (with his gorgeous Siamese mix coat and sky blue eyes), he seemed to have a very friendly and likable personality. He also didn't bat an eye when our son tried to jump near him and yell. We agreed that Charley seemed like he would complement the needs of our family... and our hunch turned out to be right. ( :

Attached are a few pics of the beautiful and spunky Charley- 1 is of him enjoying his perch with a view of the outdoors; 1 is of him in a deep sleep all curled up; and the other is just a great shot of him doing what he does best - being playful and sweet.

Thanks again for introducing us to our new friend, Charley!

Warm regards,

The Quilting Assistant

"Oh lord I LOVE him.  I forgot how much fun a kitten is.  He never extends his claws.  He was a little reticent last night but by this morning he was swinging from the chandelier-(not really).  It is hard to walk with a kitten rubbing up against your legs.  It is hard to eat breakfast with a kitten jumping on your lap from either the adjoin chair or the floor.  He plays, he jumped up on me several times last night while I was sleeping.  He is an absolute delight.  My heart is so full of joy and gratitude to HSNY for matching me with the perfect guy."

Update on Wally

Dear Humane Society of New York,

We wanted to send you some photos of Wally (or "King" Wally, as my husband J now calls him).   He's the best cat we could have hoped for, and seems to be settling in well to his new home.  Thank you so much for finding him for us!

Two Happy Pups

These two ladies made themselves right at home!

Gareth and his tooth are doing great!

When Gareth came to us, we were not even sure what kind of breed he was.  His hair was long and it had actually dread-locked!  You don't see that too often on a Yorkie but that is indeed what Gareth was.

He was very shy at first and also pretty overweight.  It looked like he had never been to a vet and if he had, it had been a while since his last visit.  So we cleaned him up, got him on a diet, and after a couple weeks, his personality and his weight improved.

Once he was ready for adoption, he met the nicest couple who decided to adopt him.  They are very happy and send us updates on his adventures all the time.  We are proud that he has come so far and was able to start over with his new family.

Gareth, when he came to HSNY.

We adopted Christine on Sunday and absolutely adore her.  She is such a special animal.  She has adapted really well and is already quite at home.  She is so funny, runs and jumps everywhere and is very loving.  The first night she cried but has been fine.  Appetite is great and all else.

Thanks so much, you all have given her so much TLC and it shows.  Humane Society of New York is an incredible organization with a great mission.  A relative told me about you and I always had cats growing up, but really loved my last one who lived 19.5 years.  She died almost 4.5 years ago and it took me this long to be ready.

Christine (now called Abby (in honor of Abe Lincoln because we got her President's weekend)) is amazing, funny, smart, gets into everything, and we love her.  We heard a lot of work and effort went into caring for her and we wanted to share with you how well she is doing now.  Please know she will always be well taken care of and we are so fortunate to have her.

We are truly grateful.

Jada is one of the kittens we rescued from the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy!  She was found on Long Island, way too young to survive on her own; most likely washed away from her mother.  She was friendly and wonderful here and we are happy she has found a loving home!  A note from her mom -

Here are Jada's first pictures in the 3 level cat condo which sits in my window looking out on to a busy NYC street. – lots of eye candy for a little kitty.  So far, she wants to explore and has no interest in Casanova (our other cat) – in fact she growls at him to go away, so he sits down and stares longingly at her.

Will keep you updated on Jada -  a tiny one!
