Shelby found herself here after her owner passed away. She came in with two other dogs and we saw immediately that Shelby was getting bullied by them. She was quiet and introverted. She didn't trust anyone or anything.
Slowly, she started to bond with her kennel workers but she was still not connecting with any potential adopters. We really needed to find someone that understood that with patience and lots of understanding, they could eventually bond with her just like the kennel workers had. Realistically, that is much easier said then done.
Thankfully, along came A. A specifically asked for a more shy pup. She knew what it would take but she also knew the rewards it could bring. At their first meeting, it went just as we imagined. Shelby made no eye contact with A, she made no effort to sniff her out. We thought for sure the deal was sealed. But no! A wanted more!
She began visiting Shelby every week, taking her for walks and spending more and more time with her. Eventually, they started to form trust and a relationship blossomed. When we all finally felt confident enough that Shelby would be comfortable to go home with A, we sent her off to live her new life.
Now, months later, Shelby and A are happy and best friends. A reports that Shelby goes everywhere with her and actually loves adventure. What a happy ending!!!
On the bus for the first time, heading to her new home!
Quality time.
