Dobby Says Happy Holidays!

"I CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH (first, for all the wonderful
wonderful and good work you all do) and for my DOBBY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He is JUST THE LIGHT OF MY LIFE. You cannot believe HOW MUCH happier I am
since he moved in with me. He is 'a piece of work' - flipping and flopping,
playing all the time - THE CUTEST ANIMAL IN THE WORLD.

He is such a doll. And soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo lovable. He is
just a 'love bug'. Last night (as he does every night when I go to bed), he
came up in bed with me, but, last night, instead of coming up to my face
right away and lying down beside me - he went to the foot of the bed and lay
across my feet. I could hear and feel him purring all the way up the bed.

Yesterday, I was holding him in front of the kitchen window (where he loves
to look out at the birds and trees) and I had the window a little open on
the bottom to get some fresh air (but, don't worry, OF COURSE, I have a full
screen on all the windows all the time, as well), but I was holding him and
we were both looking out the window and the cold air came through the bottom
and all I could think was - he could be out in this frigid cold and hungry
and huddled somewhere trying to keep himself warm - I started to cry. It
nearly broke my heart - to think that MY BABY could have been out there -
alone, hungry, cold - it truly nearly broke my heart.

I love him soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much. I (honestly) cannot
thank you folks enough for him. He has total control of my heart - that
little guy.

Anyway - take a look at the photos I took the other day - I put a Santa hat
on him just long enough to take these photos - he was NOT having it for any
longer !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want to wish you and your families and ALL THE GOOD FOLKS at
The Humane Society a wonderful holiday and THE BEST for 2011."

For Chance - In his Memory....

Nov. 15, 2009

Dear friends at the Humane Society,

I am writing this sad letter to let you know that our beloved Chance died on September 19th from pneumonia (which he caught at Tufts University whilst undergoing treatment there).
Although we still have our other two lovely dogs (one also from your shelter - Murray). Chance held a special place in our hearts as one of the best friends we have ever had.

I was told a sad tale by his handler and trainer, the day we picked him up, nine years ago, and have often thought over those years of your patience and kindness which enabled him to give such happiness & love to all who knew him. Although taken from us in middle age, he enjoyed the country life to the full, especially since he was part hound who loved the scent of the forest which we hiked every day together.

He filled our house with his unique and special spirit and he is sorely missed. Thank you all for enabling us to spend those wonderful years together & pleas accept this donation on his behalf.

Kind regards
H & E

p.s. I am sorry it has taken me so long to let you know about this but I have been too upset to write about it. Also at this time as my other two dogs Carver (formerly Murray) & Malfi are an elderly married couple I think it would be unfair to bring another dog into the mix, but as soon as that changes I will be coming to see you.
Thank you all
H

Well, the trip home from Manhattan went just great! She howled for about 3-4 minutes right when we left, then was completely quiet. I took her out when I stopped for food, then back into the kennel and she didn't protest as much this time, slept and was as quiet as a mouse until we got to Petco. There she picked out a stuffed chipmunk, and we got a large bag of food for her.
The entire family LOVES her! It is amazing.......she is truly one of us now....amazingly that fast! She loves, loves, loves the boys, and they are NUTS about her! They run the wheels off each other and it is a blast to watch! At the end of the fun, they all have their tongues hanging down to their shoelaces! It is fantastic to have a young dog that can go, go, go and keep up with my youngest almost 4. She's happily eating and drinking and is just as pleased as punch with us! She slept in her kennel and didn't make one sound all night long! (I was prepared for a LONG night....but was SO surprised!) Thank you so VERY much. The decision was yours in the end, and I'm so happy that you gave us our happy ending!

Suzy

Hi All -- Attached are some photos of our trip to the beach on Long Island last week -- a fun day for all! Suzy and Willy got along great in the car -- she loves to go for rides. She just takes a nap (and snores sometimes!) The beach was chilly, so we snuggled in a blanket on the dunes, while my husband took Willy down to look at the waves. Suzy loved to walk around a bit on the sand too. She loves her new coat from the HSNY -- so elegant! I have to get a different harness to use with it though, since it doesn't have a leash hole. She is so amazing -- she sometimes "jogs" when we go for walks (she is full of energy in the evenings!) -- it is hysterical -- she sort of tosses her hair back and forth when she runs -- I'll have to video-tape it. She is such a ham about having people pay attention to her! She and Willy are getting along really well now. We bought her a crate with a cozy fleece pad and took the door off, so it's her own little "room" -- she loves to go in there and chew on bones and kong toys. My husband is in love with her and treats her like a little princess (that she is!) -- he calls me all the time in the afternoon to report what the "guys" are up to ("Suzy is napping", "Suzy is chewing on her toys", "Suzy is snorting around looking for a treat!") I think Willy is feeling less jealous -- they each have their own "terrain" in the apt and seem to respect each other's boundaries (though Willy does go into her crate to see what she has in there and make sure she's not borrowed any of his toys!)

Trooper and Bailey

Trooper (the Golden) and Bailey (in black) were friends at our shelter, and they were adopted at about the same time. Leaving the Humane Society of New York didn't mean saying goodbye; now they're neighbors!

A note from Trooper's owner-
My son and I adopted Trooper last Wednesday. Trooper is doing well. He is a lovely dog and very well trained. We are very lucky to have him. Please let the former owners know that we love him. Trooper former owners clearly cared for him and trained him well since he is such a loveable, good dog. I'm sure they still think of him. Thank you for the great work that you do and your wonderful dedication to these beautiful animals.

Sadie

A note from Sadie's owner-

As promised, new pictures of Sadie. She was recently groomed, and she(gasp!) does have a waist! Her coat is very full and shiny, and she is verymuch at home here. She loves to play and every activity becomes a game.Anne-Marie, if you ever encounter another Sadie, just let me know. I'd drivedown in a heartbeat.
You can read Sadies complete story here (Scroll down to the middle of the page. We were calling her Sarah, back then).
