Logan

Logan was found in his ripe old age just roaming the streets over this past summer.  He was a gentle soul from the start and it was only a matter of time before an amazing couple came in looking for a senior dog to spoil.  Look at these photos...this dude has the life!
From the start, he made himself right at home.

Happy holidays!  Enjoy your pajama time!

Samantha

Samantha, all settled in her new home with her brother, Bernie.

York is part of the fam!

Hi there!
We adopted little kitten, Cindy. She adjusted to the new home and our resident cat pretty quick. Less than a week she's already a lap kitty and playing with her big sis, Harlem. She's such a sweet little baby. She came in to sleep in between me and my fiancĂ© at night. We renamed her "York". I am just sending you some pictures to share so far. We are so thankful for you and everyone at the HSNY, for all the great work that you do.

Miles (formally Butterscotch)

Hello HSNY,

We just adopted the sweetest and best cat EVER. We renamed him Miles, and it took him all of ten seconds for him to feel at home in our apartment. Here are some pictures of the little bugger! We really can't thank Bonnie enough for finding us the cat that fits our lifestyle and needs perfectly.

Have a good day!

Queenie

Queenie, like many other rescue animals, has mysteries in her past.  We don’t know her age or her original name. What we do know about this yellow-eyed Persian cat is that she lost her home during hurricane Sandy and was taken in by a kind woman who fostered her for several months.  When the woman could no longer care for her, a man she knew brought her to the Humane Society of New York early last year.

There, the vets discovered that Queenie’s long hair was so matted she had to be shaved before they could even examine her, leaving her hairless except for her head and long fluffy tail.

And that is what Queenie looked like when she found a new home with Margot, who gave her the regal name.  Margot was looking for a loving cat to keep her company on the many days she was unable to get out because of her health.

"I thought no one else would adopt her with no hair like that,” Margot says. “She was so funny looking, but I fell in love with that face and that long bushy tail.”

It took several months for the hair to grow back.    “It’s all different colors,” Margot says, “gray, black, white, blond. I love when she sits and stares at me with those gorgeous eyes and one white paw and one black paw.  She’s like a little lady, so graceful, and she bats around the only toy she likes – a   tinfoil ball I made for her. She loves to lie on newspapers and boxes, and she’s taken over the comforter on my bed. Everything in this house revolves around her. She is the queen“

In The Lobby

An unplanned reunion occurred in our lobby just moments ago.  Two alumni were here for their check-ups and wanted to say hi!

DaVinci the Shih Tzu is having a blast with his mom.  He's taken the subway several times now and is the friendliest dog on the block!

And Wendy the Yorkie is absolutely in love with her mom and vice versa.  They can't believe how fast time flies and that it was already a year ago that they found each other.

Chili

Hello,

It's been a few years now since we adopted "Diamond," the chubby Chihuahua dumped by her previous owners of 8 years.  Bonnie facilitated the adoption, so we thought she and some of the other volunteers might get a kick out of seeing some update photos.

We gave her a new name to go with her new life, and she is now known as "Chili."  When we first brought her home, her fitness level was poor and she lumbered along at a snails pace.  Walks were a slow process, and she couldnt even make it around the block without needing carried home.  It took some time, but after several months of the right food and some exercise, she's a whole new dog! She loves to walk for miles, and runs all over the house when she's excited to go out.  Her transformation really surpassed our expectations.

We couldn't love her more and feel so lucky to have her!

* The first picture is from the day we brought her home.  The picture of her running across the sand is how she looks today :)

Chelsea

Six years ago Christmas Chelsea and I adopted each other. She was 8 years
old. It's been a perfect match. She loves my grandchildren who play ball
with her, and she's patient with the young ones who drape themselves over
her.
We walk in Central Park several times a week.
This photo shows her "OK whatever you say face" as I take her photo with May
cherry blossoms. She makes everyone smile.
Thank you Humane Society of New York.

TOBY TOBIAS THE THIRD

Toby was our unofficial mascot, attending all sorts of event from Yappy Hours to Galas.  Everyone knew him.  He is a go-with-the-flow kinda dude and enjoyed meeting people from all over the world at these events.  In 2013, one of those events was the Vaute Couture Fashion Week show, where we met J.

J said she would be in touch and sure enough, the next day we heard from her.  J met all the criteria and had another dog so as long as Toby was ok with his potential new brother, it would be a go.  Sure enough, Toby was going home!

We've kept in touch and knew they have been having a blast as a family.  They go on adventures all the time and just sent us this photo.  The thought of Toby frolicking on a beach just makes us smile ear to ear.  We are SO thrilled that Toby found this amazing family and hope you enjoy his update as much as we did.

We love you Toby, you little beach bum!

Maisey (Formally Shirley)

Once upon a time, HSNY received a call from someone in a far away land on Long Island.  Many years ago, we had helped her with a pet and now, she found herself in a situation that required our assistance.  Fortunately, we were able to step in and we received from her nine little Yorkies.  They were all different ages and sizes but all very well mannered.

One by one, each of the Yorkies were adopted.  Until there was one.  Shirley was the last of the bunch and for one reason or another, she remained in our care.  It was like Goldy Locks and the Three Bears.  One was too "this", one was too "that"; until one day, the person who was juuuuust right came in.  She found a home with B and as you can see from the email below, they have their happily ever after.

Dear HSNY,

I just wanted to drop you a little message. I adopted Maisey (formerly Shirley), the 7 year old Yorkie, last Thursday.  And I just have to say that she is a true delight.  She is exactly the pet for me.  I couldn't have been more lucky in getting her.  She was a little timid as first, but we have completely become good buddies already.  She does a hysterical happy dance when it's time to eat, standing and jumping on her hind legs.  And she loves to take walks around the neighborhood.  I'm excited to take her to the park once the weather is a bit warmer.  I have never had a dog that was so calm and well-behaved.  It's amazing!!  She has come to work with me twice already and everyone adores her.

I cannot thank Bonnie enough!!  I actually came to look at Horatio at first.  But Bonnie knew right away that it wouldn't have been the best fit for me.  But she still let me meet Horatio and figure it out for myself.  I was presented with a few other dogs, but I was still stuck on Horatio.  Then Bonnie brought me Shirley.  And something just clicked.  She was so laid back, that I wasn't sure at first.  But she won me over very quickly and it was evident that she was the perfect one for me.

So I cannot thank you all enough for all the work that you do...and for bringing Maisey into my life.  I look forward to many years together with her.  I attached a little photo group for you to share as well.  And please, thank Bonnie for me once again!!

All the best...

B

Jose Limon, now Sonny

Hi!

Below are pictures of Sonny, the light of our eyes whom we adopted in January of last year.

He has brought an immense joy to our lives and added a dose of unconditional love, playfulness and joy to each day.

Thank you to Bonnie and the entire Humane Society of NY staff for helping us to adopt him.
See pictures below our our handsome boy.
